Vegas Murray’s Sports Brief Weekend Wrap

The Rangers behind Henrik Lundquist’s league leading 11th shutout this year won 1-0 Friday night solidifying their playoff position. They are now tied with the sixth place Canadians, and are only 4 points behind the Lightening for 5th place.

The Knicks continued their dismal play, losing two more games over the weekend, and are no longer an absolute lock for the playoffs. Incidentally, the Nuggets continued their stellar play since the trade, and won again on Friday. In only the second time in NBA history, the Heat had 3 players score 30 or more points and grab 10 or more rebounds last night in a win over the Rockets. The Knicks once had 3 players score 30 points in a game. On March 2nd, 1962 Willie Naulis scored 31 points, Richie Guerin scored 39, and Cleveland Buckner (that was his real name, and he wasn’t from Cleveland) scored 33 while amassing a whopping 147 points against the Philadelphia Warriors. Unfortunately for the Knicks, there was a player named Wilt Chamberlain who scored 100 points that day for Philadelphia, and the Knicks lost 169-147.

People made fun of me when I picked VCU to go to the Final Four. They’re not making fun anymore. If it wasn’t called March Madness before this year, it would have been named that now.
